ABOUT THE PRINTERS

Starting from paper

The paper portion of any InKost model works as follows. Insert the paper into the slot at the bottom of the machine. On the control panel, press start paper deinking process. The InKost model will then process the paper, prep it with an ultrasonic misting system, and send it to the erasing and staple removing area in the center of the device. This chamber removes all pencil, highlighter, and staple marks/staples from the paper. The UVC Light chamber then continues the process, and is surrounded by one way mirrors so you can observe the process occuring in the machine, and it will break the ink bonds from the paper through a combined use of multiple frequencies of powerful UVC light and a heating coil. This results in the ink being turned into a powdered ink dust, which is then collected into a container using ultrasonic waves after the cleaned paper is sent out of the machine, fully blank and ready to be reused.

Where The Magic Happens

Continue to insert papers into the paper side of the machine until the control panel says that the ink container is full. Once the ink container is full, insert it into the ink reconstitution side of the device. Select ink reconstitution on the control panel, and select your desired ink type. Fasten your printer's ink cartridge to the nozzle of the InKost on the correct hole on the ink cartridge. This cartridge refilling hole area varies depending on the printer cartridge, but an example refilling hole is shown below for HP, Canon, and Dell ink cartridges. The panel will tell you what liquid (water or a special toner/solution) to insert into the machine's liquid area (protrudes from the top of the device). The powdered ink will then be refined through a ball mill, and a specific ratio of the solution to ink particles will slowly be mixed until the ink has become thoroughly mixed and reconstituted. This new liquid ink will be tested one more time in a monochromator to ensure the right ink was created, and sent out a nozzle to the ink cartridge attached to the machine before turning on the ink reconstituter. If the ink turns out wrong, it will return to the solution & ink particle mixing area, and continue mixing with the solution.

Powered By Code

InKost's automated system allows you to leave your printed pages in the device and come back to a set of blank pages ready for reuse. The ease of operation is powered by recent additions to the product design including: robotically controlled paper rollers, reorientation of electricals to solely rely on wall power, and utilize VEX sensors/buttons to automate device operation with limited user input. Unlike manual approaches that require hours to operate, InKost's prototype is powered by a simple but powerful VEXcode IDE written in Python.
